Haiti Earthquake: |
A massive earthquake struck Chile in the early morning hours of February 27, 2010. The 8.8 magnitude earthquake was centered off the coast approximately 70 miles NNE of Concepcion. Damage from the earthquake occurred as far away as Santiago which is 200 miles north of Concepcion. Officials estimate that 2 million people were affected and 500,000 homes were damaged. What can we do? As with the earthquake in Haiti, Washington residents wanting to assist in the relief efforts in Chile are encouraged to make cash donations to a charity of their choice. Cash donations allow organizations involved in responding to and assisting in the disaster recovery efforts to purchase specific supplies and materials in the quantities most needed. |
