STATE AGENCY LIAISONS (SALs)

(Including AGENCIES, COMMISSIONS, OFFICES and OTHERS)

Purpose

State Agency Liaisons (SALs) act as an intermediary for their agency and the WA State Military Department, Emergency Management Division (EMD). SALs provide EMD a state agency point of contact during disasters, emergency events, and other emergency issues.

Expectations

A critical task for each state agency director is to designate a primary and alternate SAL. During a state emergency or disaster, an EMD State Emergency Operations Officer will contact the primary or alternate SAL when needed in the State Emergency Operations Center.

Each SAL should:

  • Know their agency’s mission.
  • Know their agency’s capabilities.
  • Have a detailed knowledge of their agency’s emergency management program.
  • Know their agency’s policies and procedures.
  • Know what resources their agency has and how to access them.
  • Have the authority to act on their agency’s behalf.
